The partnership, announced during AMD CEO Lisa Su's keynote at the Advancing AI conference, aims to create a cutting-edge AI processing platform by combining AMD’s Instinct GPUs with Cerebras’ SRAM-powered AI accelerators, reported The Register.

This collaboration seeks to address the limitations of current AI processing by delivering ultra-low-latency inference for demanding workloads, leveraging Cerebras’ Wafer Scale Engines (WSEs) and their fast on-chip SRAM. The duo's approach reportedly promises a potential fivefold increase in efficiency over comparable systems, according to TechCrunch.

The strategic partnership comes as AMD unveils its Helios AI rack-scale system, targeting the same high-performance market traditionally led by Nvidia's systems. Lisa Su highlighted the role of their new technology in meeting the rapid demand for AI computational power as the industry anticipates a $1.4 trillion market by 2030.

Cerebras’ CEO, Andrew Feldman, was vocal in his critique of Nvidia, underscoring the new alliance’s capabilities compared to Nvidia's solutions. Cerebras boasts that its accelerators already outperform in certain inference scenarios, generating over 2,000 tokens per second, and aim to outpace Nvidia’s Groq LPUs.

The new AMD and Cerebras platform is set to launch on the Cerebras Cloud later this year. This moves AMD closer to obtaining a portion of the AI accelerator space currently held by Nvidia, as AMD continues to partner with multiple tech giants including Microsoft and Meta for its Helios systems.
