Palo Alto Networks Acquires AI Startup Console for $500 Million

Palo Alto Networks has completed the acquisition of Console, a startup backed by Thrive Capital, for $500 million in cash and stock. According to TechCrunch, the transaction was officially announced on September 2, 2026, though the financial terms were not disclosed publicly. This acquisition marks another strategic move by Palo Alto Networks to bolster its AI capabilities in cybersecurity.

Founded in 2024, Console specializes in AI agents that automate routine IT support tasks, such as password resets and application access provisioning. The startup quickly attracted investments, amassing $29 million from backers including Thrive Capital and DST Global, and reached a valuation of $157 million prior to the sale. The acquisition delivers a substantial return for these investors, highlighting the rapid appreciation of AI-focused IT management solutions.

The integration of Console into Palo Alto Networks' Cortex platform will enable more sophisticated automation of security processes. According to Nikesh Arora, CEO of Palo Alto Networks, Console’s technology will enhance Cortex’s ability to deliver autonomous security outcomes by allowing security teams to interact with the system in natural language. This development points to a broader trend of incorporating AI to streamline cybersecurity workflows.

The acquisition places Palo Alto Networks in a strong position within the AI IT service management space, competing against companies like Serval. Serval itself has been scaling rapidly, aiming to dominate the segment with a $1 billion valuation, as reported by TechCrunch.

This purchase is part of Palo Alto Networks’ broader acquisition strategy in 2026. Prior to Console, the company also acquired Chronosphere and Koi, expanding its portfolio of AI-driven solutions. These moves signify Palo Alto Networks’ commitment to leading in the cybersecurity market through technological innovation and strategic acquisitions.

Console was founded by entrepreneur Andrei Serban, who previously built and sold Fuzzbuzz, a code-security platform. Console's technology has found a diverse clientele, including companies like Ramp and Scale AI, relying on its automation for routine IT troubleshooting tasks.

The acquisition underscores the increasing demand for AI integration in IT and cybersecurity functions, with enterprises seeking tools that can enhance efficiency and reduce reliance on manual processes. This trend is expected to continue as corporations increasingly prioritize cybersecurity in their digital strategies.

Looking ahead, the industry anticipates further consolidation as major players acquire startups that offer unique AI solutions, enhancing their service offerings and competitive standing. Palo Alto Networks' recent moves indicate its strategic focus on expanding AI-driven capabilities to better serve its global clientele.
