SpaceX launched its latest group of V3 Starlink satellites on Friday using the Starship V3 rocket, marking the 13th test flight of the spacecraft. This marks the second incident involving the Super Heavy booster since the introduction of the V3 Starship. During the first flight in May, SpaceX faced similar issues with the booster stage. The launch is a critical component of SpaceX's ambitious plan to enhance its Starlink network, which promises a significant improvement in internet capacity. According to Engadget, the V3 satellites can offer up to 1 Tbps of downlink capacity, greatly surpassing previous versions.

The situation poses questions about the economic viability of SpaceX's Starship program if full reusability remains elusive. The Verge notes that without reusability, the costs of deploying these advanced satellites may rise, affecting the program’s profitability and pace.

In response to previous engine issues, SpaceX had replaced several engines prior to this launch. The booster managed to fly further this time, pointing to incremental but promising improvements, even as it showed the need for further refinements in its design and execution.

SpaceX's Starlink remains a critical part of its strategy, being the only profitable segment of the company.
