The Falcon 9 upper stage, which has been adrift in space, is anticipated to strike the Moon at more than 5,400 mph. According to a study led by William Jo, a doctoral candidate at the University of Texas, this could scatter approximately 12,700 kilograms of lunar soil, forming a large, spread-out debris plume.

The event is noteworthy because it occurs on the Moon’s sunlit side, providing a first chance to observe such an impact in this context. As detailed by Wired, no impact flash has ever been recorded on the bright side of the Moon, making this a unique prospect for astronomers.
